Dip Powder vs Polygel Nails - Pros & Cons

Gorgeous, long, perfectly shaped nails, we all want them, but what’s the best way to get the look we want: acrylic or dip powder?

Today will be comparing these two different nail methods that have become popular and we’ll talk about the difference between them to help you make your decision on which method to stick to!

For a long-lasting manicure solution, many people are turning to either poly gel or dip manicures. As with everything, there are pros and cons for both nail methods. Both nail techniques can get you beautiful nails and are a great alternative for new people that want to do their nails but have no experience. So what is the difference between poly gel and dipping powder?

What are Poly gel Nails?

Poly gel is a combination between hard gel and acrylic, it is super strong and easy to use at home. Poly gel can be applied as an overlay on your natural nails or as a nail enhancement. It is cured under a UV light, but it is a lot lighter than both gel and acrylic nails. The formula delivers a strong, flexible, light nail that is just as strong as an acrylic nail and less harsh on your natural nails.

If you’ve never had nail extensions at all, the experience of having longer nails may be a bit strange at first, but if you do love a longer nail or if, you struggle with biting at your nails), then poly gel is certainly worth considering.

How long does Poly gel last?

If applied properly, Poly gel will typically lasts up to 3 weeks.

How do you remove Poly gel Nails?

There are several ways you can remove the poly gel from your nails. The removal of Poly gel nails can be somewhat time consuming, with them having to be soaked in acetone and then buffed off. As well as acetone making your nails dry and brittle, the buffing process can weaken your nails. This is something to think about when considering getting poly gel nails!

Most people will get a poly gel change every two to three weeks if they let the gel come off naturally instead of chipping away at it.

What is a Dip Powder manicure?

Dip Powder nails are incredibly easy to apply, also last a lot longer than regular manicures – up to three weeks.

Dip powder nails are just as strong as acrylic and Poly gel nails. Unlike Poly gel, using Dip Powder requires little to no experience and you will achieve salon-quality results from the comfort of your home. There is no odour at all, and totally chemical free. Dip nails don't require UV/LED light and are typically a much quicker process to apply.

How do you remove dip nails?

Removing a dip mani isn’t hard at all. All you have to do is to buff out your manicure’s shine and then soak some cotton balls with the acetone and wrap them around your fingertips. After that, wrap the cotton with the aluminium foil pieces and in a few minutes the dip powder is removed.

A good dip manicure will last anywhere from three to four weeks, which is just a bit longer than a poly gel manicure.
